Hippogriffs are Large relative of the more popular griffon. Where the griffon has the body of a lion, the hippogriff has the hindquarters of a horse and the head and wings of an eagle. While they exhibit more complex emotions than the standard eagle, hippogriffs are not very intelligent creatures. Hippogriffs lay eggs and can be domesticated to the point that they are used as mounts for aerial battles. Unfortunately for our promiscuous and adventurous bards, but probably fortunately for hippogriffs, these creatures have a below 5 Intelligence so they are unable to give consent for cross-species relations.
Mile high pony show. That is all you can think of as you take in the powerful wings, the wicked talons, and the muscular equine legs of the hippogriff. Wind presses down upon you as he flies past you. Gracefully, he alights, rear hooves kicking up puffs of dust in the dry earth. You get an eyeful of the long, heavy horse cock as he spreads his wings flapping to help him balance briefly on his hindlegs before coming to all fours.
Mimicking his display, you spread your cloak to act as your wings. You throw your hair back like a horse’s mane and prance enticingly towards the hippogriff, hoping to be taken for a ride.
Make a DC 10 Performance check to hit on the hippogriff.
On a success: The avian head cocks to one side as the hippogriff takes in your performance. He dances in place a little, with excitement you think, as you step forward. You reach out to caress the feathers running along his neck. His feathers fluff out at your touch. You move closer, slowly, trying to calm him as you would a skittish horse. He twists his head to watch you as you slowly stroke his back. His beak parts and he suddenly shrieks at you before striking at your eyes.
Initiate combat with the hippogriff using a bite attack in a surprise round.
On a fail: The hippogriff dances nervously away from you as you try to approach. You reach out your hand, trying to calm him as you would a skittish horse. You never even touch him as he rears back with a blood-chilling screech. A screech that is echoed from more flying creatures swooping down from above.
Initiate combat with an additional 1d4 hippogriffs joining in the fight.
