Owlbears are a classic DnD creature that resemble a bear coated in a mix of feathers and fur with an owl face and beak. While they may have been originally created by magical means or from a more magical realm, they were able to reproduce and form mated pairs that last until the offspring are independent. They may be slightly smarter than the average bear, but they are not Intelligent enough to give consent to mating outside their species.
The musk spray you picked up from your alchemist friend certainly seems to have done its job as a large female owlbear comes lumbering into view. Light shines down through the canopy of leaves ahead creating a dappled appearance to her brown and tan coat. She spots you and you move into your practiced song emulating screeches of a male owlbear pursuing a mate. You flap your cloak which is currently decorated with feathers to emulate the feathered arms of an owlbear. She clicks her beak at you. She appears interested?
You spread your cloak as wide as you can while you rush forward in a display of dominance. She startles back, standing on her hind legs and emitting a harsh squawk. On two legs, she looms nearly 8 feet tall. You dance back, giving her the space she needs to drop back down. Her head swivels to follow your movement as you circle her, preparing to proceed with mating.
Make a Performance check to see if the PC overwhelms the owlbear (DC 10).
On a success: She turns to keep you in sight, never letting you get behind her. As your dance brings you to charge forward again, instead of rearing up, she meets your charge with a heavy swipe of her claws.
Initiate combat with the owlbear using a claw attack in a surprise round.
On a fail: She turns to keep you in sight, never letting you get behind her. As your dance brings you close to a denser copse of trees in the forest, you hear the cadence of heavy thudding footfalls. An indignant screech of an enraged owlbear echoes from behind you as the mate to your owlbear emerges behind you.
Initiate combat with the new owlbear using a full multiattack in a surprise round.
