Ankhegs are Large burrowing insectoids that live underneath plains and farmlands as well as desert landscapes. They are known to menace farmers by eating livestock, but they can be trained to function as pack animals for races that value their tendency towards violence over the safety of the ankhegs’ handlers. Ankhegs mate in the autumn and the mother cares for the young for the first year. 

Tall grasses shift in waves as far as the eye can see. The wind is cool and hints at the upcoming winter frost. Still, all your research says now is the time of year to seduce an ankheg. The farmers in the area say they’ve been managing an ankheg clan for generations, using their tunnels to aerate their soil while trying to keep their sheep from being eaten. You pick an area that seems acceptable and pull out your bottle of ankheg pheromones. 

Make a DC 10 Performance Check to see if the PC can attract the ankheg.

On a success: The ground near your feet starts to rumble, grass and dirt popping up like a giant foot moving under a blanket of earth. From the ground emerges large pincers followed by a chinontous shell. A female ankheg! You immediately launch into your mating dance. You twirl and duck your head, flashing daggers as though they were pincers. The ankheg towers over you, smelling of earth and a deeper variant of the pheromones you spread. Suddenly, you are struck fully in the abdomen with a sharp oversized stinger. Your belly is distended as the ankheg begins depositing her eggs. 

Initiate combat. The ankheg focuses on trying to bite as she would like to incapacitate her mate so the young can eat his body.

The hulking creature recognizes you as a competing mate and lashes out.
